BMR calculator
See the energy you burn at rest with two equations, plus your daily burn at every activity level.
Know what you burn, and what you eat
NutriOS sets your daily target with this equation; the step counter tracks your burn, photos and barcodes log what you eat.
What is basal metabolic rate?
The energy your body uses at complete rest for breathing, circulation, temperature and cell renewal. It is usually the largest part of your daily burn.
How is it calculated?
- Mifflin-St Jeor (1990):
10 × weight + 6.25 × height − 5 × age;+5for men,−161for women. The most widely recommended equation today; NutriOS uses it. - Harris-Benedict (Roza and Shizgal, 1984): men
88.362 + 13.397 × weight + 4.799 × height − 5.677 × age; women447.593 + 9.247 × weight + 3.098 × height − 4.330 × age.
Multiply BMR by an activity factor to get your daily burn (TDEE). The table shows it for every activity level.
What is a normal BMR?
There is no single right number; it depends on age, sex, height, weight and muscle. Adult women are usually around 1,200–1,500 kcal and men around 1,500–1,900 kcal.
FAQ
Is BMR the same as daily calorie needs?
No. BMR is the energy used at rest; daily needs are BMR multiplied by an activity factor.
How can I raise my BMR?
More muscle mass raises the energy you burn at rest. Resistance training and enough protein are the most consistent ways.
Is eating below my BMR harmful?
Very low intake over long periods raises the risk of muscle loss, fatigue and nutrient gaps. Even when losing weight, targets should stay above a safe floor.
